Dedicated Veterinary Services in LaSalle, Mendota & Spring Valley, IL

Ancare Veterinary Hospital is a full service veterinary hospital with locations in LaSalle, Mendota & Spring Valley, IL. Since 1991, our veterinarians have provided quality care and services for dogs, cats, and exotic animals. We are committed to providing your pets with care that helps them live long, happy, and healthy lives.

We are proud to offer the following services:

Our in-house pharmacy is well stocked and contains supplies that allow us to properly immunize and treat your pet. Using our extensive knowledge, we will ensure your pets are properly dosed and monitored during their therapy. Our inventory includes everything from heartworm preventatives, flea and tick control, and pain medication to a plethora of drugs used to treat the disease that affect our pets.

Having your veterinarian play an integral part in your pet’s medical treatment ensures your pet receives the best treatment. There are many drug interactions that occur in pets that do not routinely occur in people. Your local pharmacist may be unaware of these issues. A classic example is non-steroidal anti-inflammatories. Many of these over-the-counter pain relievers are safe in humans, but can cause stomach ulcers (as high as 40%) and result in life-threatening conditions if used in dogs or cats.

Our staff is trained to screen for potential problems when you come in to refill medications. Using our in-house pharmacy can prevent a trip to the emergency room. In addition, we work hard to provide our patients with cost-effective, safe medications. We are often less expensive than online retailers and can give you well-informed advice on what is safe and effective for your pet.

It is important that a veterinarian plays an integral part of your pet’s medical treatment. Many drug interactions that occur in pets do not routinely occur in people and your local pharmacist is often unaware of these issues. A classic example is non-steroidal anti-inflammatories. Many over-the-counter pain relievers that are safe in humans will cause stomach ulcers (as high as 40%) and result in life threatening disease if used in dogs or cats.

Our trained staff knows what to look for when screening for potential problems when they ask you questions when refilling your medications. This valuable service is often overlooked by pet owners and can prevent a trip to the emergency room. In addition, because of the issue of online counterfeit drugs, you can be assured you are receiving the right drug with the full backing of the manufacturer. Order from the people you know and trust!

Our in-house surgical procedures include routine spay and neutering, soft-tissue surgeries, and orthopedic surgeries. Occasionally, we refer our patients to specialists (board certified surgeons) to perform complex operations.

We offer the following complete medical, diagnostic and surgical services:

  •  Laser & Soft Tissue Surgery
  •  Minimally invasive procedures including: Laparoscopic Ovariectomy/Ovariohysterectomy, Incisional Gastropexy, Biopsy, Cystoscopic Calculi & Polyp Removal, Rhinoscopy, Video-otoscopy, and Nasopharyngeal Polyp Removal.
  •  Orthopedic procedures such as Tibial Tuberosity Advancement (TTA), Hemilaminectomy for Intervertebral Disk Disease, Anterior Cruciate Repair, Patellar Luxation, and Fracture Repair.
  •  Dentistry procedures including Prophylaxsis (cleaning), Extractions, Feline Stomatitis treatment, Root Canals, Interceptive Orthodontics, and Digital Radiography.
  •  We provide Cardiac, Abdominal, and Pregnancy Ultrasounds.
  •  Our facility features a complete diagnostic laboratory, which means quick blood and urine results in minutes, not days.

Because Ancare has its own on-site cremation services, our doctors and staff will be exclusively and respectfully handling your pet’s’ remains. Your pet will be within our care from the moment of its passing until its ashes are returned to you.

We offer a variety of options for your pet’s aftercare, including private cremation where you receive your pet’s ashes.

All private cremations come with a standard black urn. We have many choices of urns in which to memorialize your pet for a modest fee. We carry three urns that allow us to engrave a personalized message to honor your pet. We can provide suggestions or you can feel free to express your heartfelt expression of love. We can make an ink impression of your pet’s paw or nose and combine that with the engraving. We can also order other styles of urns for you but it may take a little longer to get it. In addition, we also have personalized engraved frames for pictures and clay paws for foot imprints.

Ancare Veterinary Hospital offers several services designed to speed postoperative recovery from orthopedic procedures, improve muscle tone and mobility loss and improve conditioning for performance training. Every patient has different challenges that must be individually addressed. Our programs are designed to be flexible and address these needs. Imagine if your dog or cat got lost. You’d want to give him or her the best chance of getting home. With microchipping, you can.

Microchipping is a safe, permanent way to identify your pet in case he or she becomes lost. A microchip, which is a tiny device about the size and shape of a grain of rice, is placed just under the loose skin at the back of the neck. When a lost dog or cat without an ID tag is found, a veterinarian or veterinary technician will use a handheld microchip scanner to check for a chip. If the pet has one, it will transmit its ID number to the scanner via a low-frequency radio wave. The veterinary hospital or shelter then calls the chip manufacturer, retrieves the pet owner’s contact information, and calls the owner.

Please contact us to schedule an appointment to microchip your pet. Although we hope your pet never becomes lost, we want you to be prepared. We can also suggest a plan to have in place so if your pet does go missing, you’ll be able to act quickly. We can microchip ferrets, rabbits, birds, and other companion animals, too!

Our veterinarians are experienced in providing specialized care and treatment for exotic companion animals, including ferrets, gerbils, guinea pigs, hamsters, iguanas, rabbits, and snakes.

We understand their unique health needs and can provide diagnostic, therapeutic, and surgical services, as well as counseling on nutrition, behavior, and general care.

Budgies, cockatiels, parrots, and songbirds tend to live longer, healthier lives when they receive regular veterinary care. We can provide nutritional counseling, health assessments, grooming assistance, sexing, fecal parasite testing, medical and surgical services, and annual physicals. In addition, we’d be happy to discuss general care, disease prevention, safety, appropriate housing and toys, and breeding. We recommend that you bring your bird in for an initial checkup, then stop by once a year to ensure that he or she remains healthy and isn’t hiding signs of illness. Some birds require more frequent visits. During the exam, we will check your bird’s beak, nails, and feathers to determine if they require any specialized attention. Regular exams can help catch diseases and problems early, when they tend to be easier and less expensive to treat. A bird that doesn’t groom itself correctly, appears ruffled, or has unkempt or missing feathers is probably sick. Other signs that your bird might not be well include changes in eating or sleeping habits, difficulty breathing, and abnormal droppings. Birds are good at hiding signs of illness, so if you notice that your bird is acting unusual or if something just doesn’t seem right, call us as soon as possible.

Most birds need to have their nails trimmed regularly. However, the process can be detrimental to your bird if its nails are trimmed too short. We can take care of this procedure for you so that you don’t have to worry about nicking the blood vessels inside the nails. Call us if you’d like to schedule an appointment.

Be careful if you perform this procedure at home. In fact, we only suggest that you attempt this at home if your bird is small and has white nails (which allow you to see the blood vessels). We also suggest you keep a caustic agent, such as styptic powder, on hand in case a nail bleeds. Providing perches with rough surfaces can help reduce the frequency of nail trimming, but do not use sandpaper perches. They don’t wear down the nails and can cause skin problems.

Clipping a bird’s feathers can protect your bird and your home. Wing clipping is a non-painful procedure that ensures the safety of your bird in its environment and keeps your bird from chewing holes in your doors and window frames. It limits your bird’s ability to fly, removing the risk of injury from flying into a ceiling fan, onto a hot stove top, or into (or out) a window.

Having your bird’s feathers professionally clipped helps ensure that the right feathers are removed without irritating the skin. Improperly clipped wings can cause your bird to pluck or chew its feathers. In addition, inexperienced wing clipping can result in a blood feather being accidentally trimmed, a situation that can become life-threatening. We can perform this procedure safely while preserving the aesthetic appearance of your bird. Please feel free to call us to discuss this option, as well as any concerns you might have, or to set up an appointment.
